Neon-Like Watercolour Hummingbirds

I got the idea of a neon color card but without actually making the investment of purchasing neon markers. I thought bright translucent colours would do the trick and once the colouring was done, and put them against the black background, it totally gave me the look I had in mind.

I started by stamping my images with Ink On 3, fadeout ink on watercolour paper. I used Tombow markers to colour all the images. I didn’t follow any particular pattern, but I did colour in small sections. I tried to blend as much as possible between the transitions of colours to avoid harsh lines. Then, using the hard tip of the marker, I went over the lines on certain parts of the images to create more definition.

I cut a piece of black cardstock and freely splattered some metallic watercolour, then arranged the flowers and leaves around another piece of round die cut shape of the same black cardstock and placed the hummingbirds further outside the circle. In the centre of the circle I added a simple “hello” sentiment that I die cut from shimmery green cardstock over a vellum shadow. Finally, I added a few iridescent bubbles from Studio Katia for extra sparkle.

This card was so well received by my Instagram followers and I got tons of cool comments from my fellow crafters. Seriously, the best part of being a card maker is our awesome community. I hope you like this card too, and as usual, let me know if you’d like to have more details.

See you next time!
