No Line Watercolouring Pomegranates

No Line Watercolouring Pomegranates

I loved this stamp set from the moment I saw it but I was a bit apprehensive because I thought it was going to be a pretty hard colouring job. However, after I watched a short demo video from my fellow crafter Ilda from I Love Doing All Things Crafty I thought, I got to have it.

This stamp is from the trimmings collection from Studio Katia and they come with two different stamps. I stamped one of the images in Bristol Smooth surface cardstock with Distress Ink in Antique Linen. For the colouring, I chose a mix of Tombow and Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers. I used Tombows 020, 126, 856 and 022, 043 and 067 from the Zigs.

I started by outlining the different parts of the actual pomegranates, one by one. On the outside edge of what would be the skin of the fruit, I first added a thick layer of Tombow 020, then a fine layer of 022 and blended the colours into the inner side of the fruit without touching the seeds. Then, I added a few strokes of 067 (Zig) to the edges and especially at the tip of the fruit to create darker areas, thus giving it a more realistic look. I did this with all the outer (skin) part the pomegranates.

Now, the seeds where easier than they seem, I simply outlined each seed with the smaller (harder tip) of the Tombow 856 which is ideal for small areas like these, then with the water brush barely wet, I blended each seed from their edge to the inside. For most of them, I intentionally left a small area without colour to create the impression of a highlight. Once I finished with all the seeds, I blended with the 020 Tombow directly on the project (no water brush used here).

The leaves were even easier, I filled them with light layer of Tombow 126, then outlined with Zig 043 and carefully blended the two colours but still making sure there was a definition between each element of the leaves. The stems were simply done with a stroke of Zig 043.

This was an actual thank you note for a friend, I used the “Gracias” die cut from Elizabeth Crafts Designs and cut 2 layers, one on fine crafter’s foam for extra dimension and the other one on the red cardstock I wanted to use, I glued them together and waited a few minutes until they dry.

Continuing with the nature theme, I used a woodgrain cardstock as a main panel, wrapped around a couple of layers of a very fine straw thread in terracotta colour and I added a bow of the same material, I placed the sentiment in the opposite side of the bow. Using foam tape, I adhered the main panel to the actual card, and then added a few orange sequins from Cards by Nikki as a final touch.

I think this stamp set is very versatile, it could be used for several themes, perfect for summer, fall and even Christmas cards, why not? After all, that’s the whole point of being creative.

Thanks for visiting,

See you next time.

XOXO
