No-Line Watercolored Magnolias
No-Line Watercolour Magnolias
This is a stamp that I see myself using over and over again, the way you arrange the flowers on the panel allows for a plethora of designs, so your cards won’t look the same. I find this particular line of stamps from Penny Black ideal for no-line watercolouring technique as the stamped areas make it easier to decide where to add shadows and highlights.
I started by stamping the image in different parts of the main panel with Ink on 3 fadeout ink on bristol smooth surface card stock. For the colouring job I combined the Altenew watercolour pan set and Zig Clean Color real brush markers. For the flowers, I started with the lightest purple fairly diluted, then added accents with two slightly darker shades, only on the parts where the stamped areas were more evident. For the leaves I pretty much did the same, with a single (light hand) stroke of the brush on green and added a few touches of colour in some areas for extra depth.
I wanted to keep this as subtle as possible, so instead of making the stem in brown, using the Zig markers I coloured them in a very diluted shade of grey and added accents with a little darker shade of brownish grey. Finally, I carefully splattered a mix of the grey and purple colours to fill some spaces in the background.
For the sentiment, I die cut the “Birthday” in black cardstock and then 2 more times in a thicker white cardstock, stacked them and glued them together, I took all those extra steps to give more dimension to the die cut. I also stamped the “happy” message on the same black cardstock and heat embossed it with Liquid Platinum embossing powder from Ranger.
I die cut the main panel with the Wonky Stitched rectangle die from MFT and using double sided foam tape I placed it over a shimmery panel of card stock. As usual, I added a few irisdencent embellishments for a bit of sparkle.
This particular card and design was a request, I think it is both cheerful and elegant and it suits many personalities and occasions.
It was such a lovely project, and I enjoyed making it very much. If you like it too, I invite you to share or comment on this post.
See you soon!
