Spring Pansies Needlepainting

Hello dear reader,

I trust you had a joyful Christmas and New Year. It has been a while for me over here, the Christmas season is always a busy one for crafters, I made a ton of greetings cards and that consumed most of my working time leaving me with no additional time to write. In the next few days I want to blog about my Christmas cards but for my first post of 2021, I wanted it to be about embroidery. 

This kit which I got last summer from Embroidery Art by Nat came with almost everything needed to get this project done, I only had to add an embroidery hoop and shears. I have to admit that Natalie is very generous with her kits, she just doesn’t give you some floss and a couple of needles, but an entire bobbin of each colour (even if you only need just a bit of them) as well as a full case of needles, a few of each size.

The process is pretty much the same one would do with other similar projects that require mostly filling stitches. The stems and the outline of each flower were done in steam stitch, and the inside of each pansy was done in long and short satin stitch. This time, I actually remembered to take a few pictures of the process and I want to share them with you.

As you can see, I still struggle with the direction of the stitches, but I hear that is very common for beginners.

I sort of came out with my own technique to help me the direction of the stitches. But keep in mind, there is a right way of doing it., this one just happened to work for me this time.

At first I wasn’t sure about the colours, but all together they look nice and bright, good choice Natalie! You can, of course, make your own selection and I’ll probably do that at one point, in fact, I want to do this project again but with a dark fabric, the colours will pop really nice. 

So, the project is done, now what?. My mother suggested a cushion but I haven’t decided yet. If you have any ideas, I’d love to hear them.

More embroidery in the future.

Mary Corbet, an expert in Needlework  has shared her plans for a fun project, she actually called it “stitching fun 2021”. It is not a challenge, but rather something more personal, in which one commits to do random stitching for about 20 mins a day, using old threads and a random design. My idea is to make a sample to practice all the stitches I know. I already got my fabric and I hope to start this week, I’m very excited. I hope to be able to show you real soon.
