Spring Theme, Mini Slimline Shaker Cards

Hello crafty friends,

I’m Monica, this is my very first post for Studio Katia and I am super excited to be here.

For this first Studio Katia project, I wanted to bring something that’s really me, a bit of color and some awesome bling. So I created 2 mini slimline shaker cards with Spring and Easter themes (getting ahead for the next year!!!)

I used the Easter Eggs stamps and started by stamping all the eggs on watercolour paper, using black ink and heat setting with clear embossing powder. Then came the coloring, this time I chose Tombow markers but you can use any water based markers or even regular watercolours. I decided to go for a very spring-like colour palette. I selected two shades of blue, pink and purple. The design of these eggs make it easy to add the colour by section and I wanted to take advantage of that. To explain a bit more I’m going to use the blue egg as an example: I started from the top by adding some blue colour only on the corner of that top part of the egg, then blended with the water brush. I followed with the section under it using the other shade of blue but this time adding the colour on the opposite corner of that section and blending again. I continued the same way alternating shades and corners until I got to the last section. The pink and purple eggs were also done in a similar way. Once the coloring was done, I splattered some white gouache and let them dry.

For the background of each card I used the Peeps and Eggs stencil and added the inks using the Ink Blender Brushes. On a heavy white cardstock, I added purple ink and then went over with clear glitter gel and set aside to dry. For the second card, I blended layers of yellow, pink, baby blue, lilac, green and mustard, then used the stencil to apply glitter gel and let it dry

I cut the Mini Slimline (set one) dies on white textured cardstock. I created a window for the one with the scalloped edge and placed a piece of Acetate Sheet and two layers of foam tape. For the other piece I used the Easter Eggs die (dotted edge) to create two windows, then added a piece of acetate sheet and foam tape.

Once the base layers had dried, I used the same slimline die with the scalloped edge to cut them out and started assembling the cards. I used the same confetti mix for both cards, Studio Katia Cross Glitter and Pastel Rainbow Confetti.

For the sentiments, I went with “Spring Blessings” from the Easter Eggs set and stamped it on ivory cardstock on black ink and “Happy Easter” from the Mini Easter Sayings on black cardstock with white embossing powder. As a final touch, I added some Radiant Pineapple Fusion sequins for extra bling.

I hope you enjoy these projects as much as I loved making them. Thanks so much for visiting.

Until next time!

Monica.
